She won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as a deaf-mute rape victim in Johnny Belinda, and was nominated three more times for The Yearling, The Blue Veil (1951) and Magnificent Obsession (1954). She also won two Golden Globe Awards and three Emmy Awards for her work on television. She was married to actor Ronald Reagan from 1940 to 1948, and was the only wife of a US president to have been divorced.
